"Trim the Fat" Thursday

While typing the title of this post, I wondered to myself if it was all a lie. I certainly haven't "trimmed any fat" since I've been participating in TTFT and it hasn't motivated me to exercise any more than normal.

Normal being very, very little.

That being said I have found myself ordering water (with lemon) everywhere, and yesterday I resisted the temptation to stop for a McD's sweet tea. Now THAT was hard...sweet tea is like my crack.

I knew that I hadn't gotten in enough water for the day and that if I bought the tea I wouldn't drink anymore. So even though the fat is still hanging out I have made some positive changes. Drinking water & taking my vitamins has become second nature to me.

And I figured out why I'm so hungry when I get home. After tracking what I eat for breakfast & lunch at work I could see that I was lacking protein. Typically I eat cereal for breakfast and leftovers or a salad for lunch. Snacks were fruit, sugar free pudding or fiber one bars. So very little or no protein.

To fix this I've tried eating peanut butter in the mornings and cheese in the afternoon & I think it's working.

Also per Angie's (& her doctors) recommendation I picked up the Flat Belly Diet from the library. I just started reading it but I'm considering trying it out. The only downsides so far is that most of the food listed is brand name, which means I will have to seek out alternatives that are similar in nutritional content. That equals to "pain in my ass" and "expensive".

Of course if losing weight were easy then we would not have an obesity epidemic in this country and I wouldn't be whining about any of the above.

~sigh~

Goals this week:

1. Drink 4 glasses of water a day.
2. Take vitamins everyday.
3. Do 20 minutes of exercise 2 days a week.
4. Finish reading the Flat Belly Diet.
5. Possibly start the 4 day jump start. If not start tracking calories.

It's time to start looking at what I'm eating and adjusting my portion sizes. If the FBD doesn't seem the way to go for me, then I will just keep a calorie count of what I'm eating.

So how did you do this week?

If you are participating in "TTFT" don't forget to link up at Angie's place!

You've made some positive changes that are awesome! Weight loss is all about making life changes, so the fact that you've changed your water and vitamin habits are GREAT! Way to go!

Now that I'm on day 4 of the jumpstart, I'm breathing a big sigh of relief and happy that I saw some immediate results. And they don't even take exercise into account. Odds are I would've shown a bigger loss if I hadn't started my strength training workouts. And I substituted a few things yesterday and today and I think it's fine. If you want to talk more about it, you know how to reach me! :-)

I should be able to join TTFT because I haven't gained any weight yet from this pregnancy... what I mean is that i'm at my prepregnancy weight now... so doesn't that count for something. I have learned so much from this GD diet that I have been STUCK on... that I will be keeping some of the rules and in the end eating much better once this baby is out, that maybe I will lose more weight. :) I am excited to try. AND yes I find myself starving if I don't get enough protein.
If you need ideas on high protein and low carbs, I got it :)

good job on the sweet tea pass up yesterday!

You've made really good lifestyle changes. Drinking more water, and taking your vitamins alone are great for your body :) If you are looking for a low cal protein snack Almonds are really good for you (and tasty!). I also like to make homemade hummus :P

I have to keep saying to myself "baby steps..." but it is difficult. I am waiting for someone to create that magic wand or perfect pill.

Oh, and I am on the wait list at the library for the book, too. But for some reason, I keep calling it the belly fat book.

you are making some good changes. I just cant do the water. I even add crystal light to it and I still cant make myself drink it.

I think the life changes are way better than any 'diet'. It's proven those hardly last. Keeping up with your calorie intake should help too. Makes you really realize what we put in our bodies. Good luck!

Oh, I hear ya. I am so bad about water too... and protein is HARD, man! There just aren't many "proteiny" snacks out there. I hate those bars :-(

You are doing great!

I also love sweet tea. It's so hard not to go to McDonalds and get some.

eat a really good / large breakfast. that kick starts your metabolism for the day. eat a protein packed quasi-big lunch to keep you going through the afternoon and make your dinner smaller and not heavy (low calorie/carb friendly). you're doing GREAT with the water....a hydrated body is a responsive body!

Nice to meet another fellow addict of the sweet tea. It is just a cup of crack, isn't?
But I LOVE IT!!

Were on he same BlogHer roll right now.

Nice to meet you.

I'm glad your taking healthier measures and those small changes will start to (over time) make for BIG changes.

I agree that life changes are better than diet. I'm really impressed that you have made some changes and that you can analyze your eating and think of a solution. I keep a list of what I eat and quit when I get to the third Snickerdoodle.
