The Green-Eyed Monster

“O, beware... of jealousy; it is the green-eyed monster” ~ William Shakespeare

I'm not that chick that freaks out if her husband mentions someone is attractive. I don't try to keep up with the Joneses. And even when there is a size 2 walking in front of me, I don't have envious thoughts.

But sometimes. Just sometimes the green-eyed monster rears up in me.

Every Sunday I take some time to read the newspaper, browse the ads and laugh with the comics. My journey through the paper always leads me to read the celebration section.

Here comes the monster!

See, I never had a wedding.

S & I had a quick courtship and an even quicker marriage ceremony. In a lawyer's office with only his mother in attendance.

There aren't any pictures of us. No flowers to be seen. Not even a cake to celebrate. In fact I wore a green dress.

I always look at those brides with envy because they got what I didn't.

Then I come to my senses and beat back that green-eyed monster.

Wedding or not, I have a happy marriage with a good man who loves every part of me and never hesitates to let me know it. He spoils me like no other would. This man that has taken on my family and made it his own, is my soul mate. My valentine. Til death do us part.

I wouldn't trade that for a million white dresses.

White dresses are over rated anyway. My first wedding was the whole shabang and it didn't last long. My second marriage, I left the whole wedding drama behind, and I am a lot happier because of it. It is not the wedding that counts, but the marriage itself. And you already knew that. :)

It's all about the marriage, not the wedding. Sounds like you got the good end of the stick!

So sweet! The wedding means nothing...its the marriage that matters.

I think every little girl has the dream of the white wedding and the knight in shining armor. Unfortunately, the two don't always go hand-in-hand.

Joe and I had a small wedding on a low budget and started out living with his parents in their refurbished garage. That was almost 14 years ago.

A wedding does not the marriage make, although I can understand the occasional bout of envy. Good for you that you don't let it get the best of you!

I got goosebumps reading those last lines!

I have been a bridesmaid in five weddings. Two were HUGE affairs. 500+ people, tens and tens of thousands of dollars spent on the catering alone, and don't get me started on the dress. One of my bridesmaid dresses cost $600. How f*ing pissed was I about that? But I digress. Of the other three weddings, one was average size 100-150 maybe and the other two were small. 25-50 people. Guess who's still married. Not the big weddings. Goes to show, it really is far more about the marriage than the wedding.

We got married on a budget. On a Friday night with just dessert for the reception. I wish now we had just eloped...and the little bit of money we put in to the dress and such could have gone towards something else. And I still have my dress...let me know if you wanna borrow it :-)

You could always have a vow renewal if you really wanted to. I promise I would come, get drunk, start a yelling match with some other drunk bitch, and throw myself all over one of the groomsmen. " )

You can always have that special day. Go off some place really special and renew your vows. Make it happen. :)

This might help as you stare longingly at the bride in white - that dress probably cost $5,000 not to mention the cost of flowers, reception, etc. I heard somewhere that the average wedding costs $30,000! So, that's like going to CVS and getting just what you wanted, the man of your dreams, and CVS gave you $30,000 - you being a deal-finder know that is way better than having a white dress in a box in your garage.
