White Out

You may have heard about our blizzard here on the East Coast. Let me tell you we are not used to that kind of winter weather here.

Oh yeah, sure we get snow every year but this time we got
S-N-O-W.

As in 14-20" inches of snow. I measured 14" on my deck but it was still snowing so I don't even know what the final tally was at my house.

Nor do I care.

Cause even though it's breathtakingly beautiful, it was also dangerous, expensive & messy. Not to mention extremely inconvenient since it took place the last weekend before Christmas.

It started on Friday around 2 in the afternoon and by 3 it was already covering the ground. It came down fast & sticky.** The snow fell for the rest of the night on Friday and well into Saturday before it stopped.

Because it was SO much (and VDOT was sorely unprepared) we were stuck in the house the whole weekend and Monday. I finally left the house yesterday afternoon but the roads were still not great. Even today with the sun out it will not melt much, and what does melt will become ice as soon as the sun goes down.

Friday night

Saturday morning

The expensive part (this is our dog's kennel where the roof collapsed)

The beautiful part

And Monday morning

Topping off all this, they are now calling for wintry mix/freezing rain on Thursday & Friday. Oh joy.

To all those people who yell "Let it snow!" you can SUCK IT! And I mean that from the bottom of my frozen heart.

**That's what she said.

At the risk of being told to suck it, it really is beautiful to look at.

I can understand that too. I would hazard a guess if you showed pics of the side of the roads, the grey snow and mud aren't too pretty to look at. Be safe and try to enjoy your Christmas anyway.

OMG...be careful.. what a sight. I do wish we would get a little snow for Christmas but your amout is a bit much.

Yep, my kids would love it...me? Not so much.

Maybe it'll stick around long enough for a white Christmas, then melt and not return until next winter. I'll put in a good word for you with Mother Nature.

The beautiful pics are certainly that, though. If only you didn't have to drive in it...

We have not got that much snow in the midwest (Ohio), and my son is complaining. He wants snow. Is their anyway you can send some our way? :)

You need to move to So Cal with me - honestly, I would just ball up in the fetal position with that much snow.

It's the middle of summer here in Australia...blue skies, muggy weather.

The snow does look pretty, 'cept I know it's just wet and cold.

Now THAT is a snow storm! We had a lot of that by this time last year. This year we are taking a breather. It sure does interrupt your life no matter how beautiful it looks at first. I hope you do not get the snow/rain mix for Christmas or that you get snowed in again! There is only so much family time one can take in close quarters.

I saw the asterick and I said to myself "that better be: that's what she said!" WIN.

Our final tally was about 20 inches. Fortunately, we live on a flat, somewhat busy street, so it was cleared fairly quickly, but it took us two days to clear our 75 ft long driveway to get my car out, so I was stuck home until Monday. It SUCKED.

I do not miss this weather. It's fun to look at from afar. Five years in South Dakota did me in. When it's cold enough for snot to freeze it's to stinkin' cold.

Good night, do you have some amazing views.

It is pretty to look at... but yeah, y'all did get a bit much, didn't you?

Did you lose power? Is there any snow left?

ROFL I'm with you on telling them to suck it! I had enough snow for the rest of the winter thankyouverymuch!

My kids would kill for a little snow!! I'm sure it's a major drag though

Wow that is a lot of snow!

Heather said...

Ick. Good luck with all of that! Hopefully you don't have to travel much.

I'm so glad we've gotten just a "dusting".

Wow! We just got the rain end of it. Which is still pretty nasty. Mostly because after that flooding we had in September, the water has now found a pathway to the basement...and we have water there...again. I hate rain.

But your snow is surely pretty! Are you getting more now? Had any of the other melted before wave 2 arrived?

Holy crap that's a lot of snow, and one big ass deck!

Hope it melts before Feb. ;)

I don't mind snow so long as I don't have to drive in it. But usually I have to go somewhere when we get a lot of snow so I'm annoyed.
