The Green-Eyed Monster

“O, beware... of jealousy; it is the green-eyed monster” ~ William Shakespeare

I'm not that chick that freaks out if her husband mentions someone is attractive. I don't try to keep up with the Joneses. And even when there is a size 2 walking in front of me, I don't have envious thoughts.

But sometimes. Just sometimes the green-eyed monster rears up in me.

Every Sunday I take some time to read the newspaper, browse the ads and laugh with the comics. My journey through the paper always leads me to read the celebration section.

Here comes the monster!

See, I never had a wedding.

S & I had a quick courtship and an even quicker marriage ceremony. In a lawyer's office with only his mother in attendance.

There aren't any pictures of us. No flowers to be seen. Not even a cake to celebrate. In fact I wore a green dress.

I always look at those brides with envy because they got what I didn't.

Then I come to my senses and beat back that green-eyed monster.

Wedding or not, I have a happy marriage with a good man who loves every part of me and never hesitates to let me know it. He spoils me like no other would. This man that has taken on my family and made it his own, is my soul mate. My valentine. Til death do us part.

I wouldn't trade that for a million white dresses.

Mine is so much better than yours...

My husband that is.

Word. Up.

This weekend while I was living it up in the mountains of Pigeon Forge, TN with my ladies S was holding it down in the 'Tot. Noted & trademarked.

He fought through the organic veggies and found his beloved Luck's pinto beans in order to provide dinner for the teen/young adult and himself.

Then he worked a booster fundraiser in the wee morning hours without his beloved partner. That would be me. Duh.

I came home yesterday to a clean kitchen and clean laundry. (Did I mention he ALWAYS does the laundry? Hate on THAT.)

Then before S grilled pork chops for dinner he showed me the project he completed in the garage.

Honestly the "S" doesn't stand for Superman, but maybe it should.

And maybe, just maybe I'm not too disappointed that I couldn't buy him a TN Harley shirt. Especially when I realized he had shaved and cut his hair. For me.

If you know what I mean.

And you Hard Rock ladies know exactly what I mean.

More Cookout Conversations...

Whenever my family gets together we have a good time. I guarantee that during these get togethers you will hear some stories from the past & some good natured insults.

I'm constantly teasing and joking those I love. I practice daily on S & SS but it's always fun to share the "love" with my family during a large gathering. And of course they show the "love" back.

That's just how we roll.

You've already heard how my lil sis accused me of acting like a teenager** but I forgot to include the part where my middle sis said S was "a good man".

Most people would totally take that as a compliment.

I'm not most people though.

I found it to be incredibly funny.

It just sounded corny to me. Plus, she had some other further comments to go along with that assessment, such as she didn't know if I would be doing as well without him.

That part I should have been insulted by but we know the truth. And that is just like any good marriage/partnership/relationship it takes both people to make it work & to make it a success.

Everything that we've accomplished, we've done it together.

It might not always be 50/50, but on the days when I'm feeling like a 40, he's the 60 and vice-versa. It's a true PARTNERSHIP.

And while I laughed and made jokes about it, the truth is that S IS a good man and I'm glad that he's my man.

Guess she was right after all.

**Yesterday's post was supposed to be tongue-in-cheek. The comment made by lil sis was after I told her that she had the mind of a 10 year old, and it was joke. I knew it was a joke & I took it as a joke. I was merely saying I can only be ME at any age.
